When suffering from Jumper’s knee, you will experience pain in the lower region of your knee cap (patella). Due to overuse, an inflammation occurs on the spot where the ligament between your shin bone (tibia) and knee cap attaches to the lower side of your knee cap. This spot, also called the distal pole of your knee cap, is usually tender.
Typically, this condition develops slowly and there is usually no trauma involved. The pain is felt during activities where you bend your knee, such as squatting, climbing stairs.
The treatment is almost always non-operative. Stretching exercises usually help and a cortisone injection may sometimes be warranted. Nonetheless, the condition is often slow to heal since adequate rest is hard to combine with your normal daily activities.
